Yesterday Chris and I hit Clyde Pond for our first day of fishing,
hopefully the first of many days this summer. It is still a
bit early in the season, since the ice just came off the water a week
or so ago. We didn't really expect to catch anything, but we
had the itch and wanted to get out there anyway.
We puttered around Clyde Pond (which is just the pond that was created
by damming the Clyde river right before it gets into Lake Memphremagog)
in the little duck boat that we borrowed from Larry at work.
He lets us use it in the summer, since he only uses it for
duck hunting the fall. We just have a little electric
trolling motor on it, but Larry showed us that he has a little 2hp
motor that he might let us use if he can get it working.
It was a bit windy, so we drifted around a bunch. Chris got
the first bite, and didn't know it was a fish at first. He
thought he had just snagged another log, but when the smallmouth jumped
out of the water, we knew it wasn't a log. He landed it and
it proved to be the largest fish of the day.
I got jealous, so I copied him and put on a rooster tail, and started
casting out into an area near where he got that one. A little
bit later, I hooked a nice one right off the front of the boat.
We were tied, but he was still beating me on size by a couple
of inches. We didn't get any more bites in that area and
started moving to another area. I let out my line to troll a
little while we were moving, and got another fish on a few minutes
later. It was pretty much the same size as the first one.
So, for the day, we only got 3 bites, but they were 3 nice bass and we
landed them all. We practice catch and release, so hopefully
we can catch them again someday! We are probably going to go
out again next Friday if it is nice out and take a vacation day.
Here are some pics from the day:
