Bird Feeder, Duct Tape, and a Broken Shovel

Today I woke up at 11:00 AM, again very unusual for me to sleep in that late. Jaime wasn't too amused. But I guess my body needed it. I do tend to stay up rather late most nights getting things done that I need to do and giving Jaime several snore-free hours of sleep.

She went to visit our friend Lisa and her kids. I took the opportunity to finally fix the bird feeder that the squirrels destroyed. They had broken off the part that attaches it to the pole (broke a metal weld!), so it was just hanging there useless. I attached a block of wood to the inside and drilled a hole in it the size of the pole. I put it back on the pole, but it didn't seem like it was going to cut it. The block wasn't as deep as it needed to be (just an end of a 2x4) so I needed to improvise. It was a fairly new bird feeder and not very cheap, so I wanted to salvage it if possible (BTW: it was advertised as squirrel-proof). So I busted out the trusty duct tape and used that to further secure it to the pole. We'll have to see how long that holds up. I used a lot of tape.

Another Saturday at Work

I went in to work again today. I have been working on a program and I seem to get much more done in a long uninterrupted chunk of time that I get on a weekend rather than the normal work week. Jaime went to her cousin Amanda's baby shower today.

Last night we took Phil out for his birthday (which was a month ago) to the Seymour Lake Lodge. The food was excellent as usual. I had a big bourbon soaked steak and also got the fried ice cream for dessert. I know, a real killer for the diet. And I wonder why I have plateaued!

Tomorrow Jaime will be going to visit our friend Lisa and her kids. I am not going, so I will probably get some stuff done around the house.

Bowling Ball Looks Good

Phew! I just got back from bowling. Luckily Yvan was able to buff out the large gouges from my ball. I was actually quite surprised that it came out as well as it did, I thought for sure that my ball was a goner. It does feel a little different though, and I was noticing that the thumb holes seemed a bit "sharper".

I dropped off my medical records and signed up with a new doctor today. There is a new doctor coming to town so he is taking patients. I haven't been able to get in anywhere else because most of them aren't taking new patients now, so that is good. I haven't had a physical since I left the Air Force a few years ago, so Jaime is happy that I took care of it finally.

My knees have been killing me lately. I am not sure what it is. But bowling definitely aggravates them. However, they hurt all the time whether or not I have been hitting the gym I guess I am either too overweight (duh) or starting to get old.

Drupal Timestamps Possibly Fixed

I think it may be fixed now, we'll see. I have installed a not yet completed module that is supposed to be handling the time zone info better, Date.

**UPDATE**

It was late when I wrote this. The time zone portion seems to be working correctly, the only thing I don't like is that the time stamps seem to get updated site-wide. For instance, if I wrote a blog entry a couple months ago at 7:00 AM, it will now appear as 8:00 AM because of DST. The way I understand it, drupal saves the time stamp in UTC, then converts it for display using an offset. I think the Date module looks like it is correctly identifying the DST information for the current time, but it doesn't look like it can determine whether or not DST was in effect on an older date. I may be wrong, but looking at some of my older entries that I know I wrote before I went to work, they look like I wrote when I would have been at work. I guess this thing is no huge deal, but it is nice to know when things actually occurred, especially in the logs.

Timestamps messed up?

For some reason, the timestamps here are messed up. I wonder if it has something to do with the changing of daylight savings time or what? Right now I got 12:30 AM on my computer, but I am sure the timestamps on the site will be an hour earlier.

Hmm...

My Bowling Ball Got Munched

Last Thursday night when I was bowling, in the third game, my bowling ball got stuck down in the ball return. I didn't notice it didn't come back for a couple of minutes. Yvan (owner) wasn't there that night, so Rosie had do go back to get my ball and a few others unstuck. When my ball came back, it was covered in white stuff. When I looked at it, I noticed that it was completely gouged out on one side and the white stuff was presumably the dust from either a pin getting ground up or the remnants of my ball. Dad's ball also sustained some damage. He tried to clean it off but it didn't come off either. To say the least, I was not amused. I had to bowl the rest of the game with a house ball. I brought my ball to the desk and Linda assured me that Yvan would be able to "buff" it out. I am curious to see tomorrow night if he was indeed successful or if they will be providing me with a new ball.

We went to mom and dad's for Easter. It was just the four of us and mom cooked a Turkey. Dad gave me his old set of golf clubs because he got all new ones. He really went through the effort of hooking me up. Now I will need to take some lessons and learn how to play!

No Dice...

I failed in my first attempt to upgrade to 6.1.

There are actually quite a few modules I use that have not made the update yet, so I may hold off for awhile and try again in a month or so.

I could not get update.php to work properly. I think it may have had something to do with not modifying my .htaccess file correctly or maybe because I left in a bunch of my old modules. I ended up hosing everything including the database, so I had to restore back to my back up that I made. Oh well, I will try again soon!
